Happy 1st Birthday

On the 17th of this month my tank turned 1 month. I know, that's lame.. But I'm glad to say that everything is still looking great and all of the inhabitants are happy and enjoying their home. I'm sad to report though that the star fish didn't make it. Apparently they are very fragile and either you have luck with them or you don't.

On the weekend I added in 3 Green/Blue Chromis (See Picture Below). These guys are amazing, full of energy and have a great blue shiny color.

I am attempting to move to bi-weekly water changes, I am waiting until Saturday and if my water is still in good condition I will stick to it, otherwise I will move back to doing weekly changes.

That’s it for now.

Enjoy!

New Coral & a Star Fish

The Tank is looking great! It's been over a month and so far no big problems. My two clowns are getting along great and my corals are looking amazing!

I recently added in a Xenia Coral which is very fascinating to watch as well as a star fish to help keep the algae under control. I’m keeping up with the weekly water changes, and everything is looking great.

Last night I found a worm crawling around my rocks, but apparently he’s good to have and I shouldn’t worry. I was able to drop my Nitrates down close to 0 which is great for the tank, otherwise my calcium is sitting at 300 ppm, and I’m still trying to get it up to 400.

I’ve posted up some pictures below, so enjoy! (Thanks Brandon for the Pictures)

Cycle in Finished!

After about 2 weeks my tank was cycled. Never thought it would be that quick. I went and added in some invertrbates.

3 Blug Legged Hermit Crabs
3 Astria Snails
1 Peppermint Shrimp (Jacque) - Thanks Mel for the name!

The shrimp likes to hide out behind the rocks but I see him come out every so often. After a few days I went and added a

Ricordia Coral
A pair of percula clowns
leather coral

So Far Everything looks great. I'm going to wait a few weeks before adding anything else. I will post some pictures up when I get a chance.

Rock Finally Arrived

After about a week or so, the pangona rock arrived. I picked up 26 lbs and it just looks amazing, It’s full of color and seems to have a lot of growth. They’re much nicer than the Fiji rock my LFS usually sells. I also added on a Saline skimmer, so far I'm very happy with its performance and it’s ultra quite which pleases me.

I will probably add in a few more pieces of rock to raise it up higher, I may play around with the layout a bit, but overall I’m pretty content with how it looks. So now I wait for the rock to cure and the tank to cycle. In the meantime I’m going to be putting together my livestock wish list.

I will post it when I am finished for any comments or suggestions.

See ya all soon

My New Tank

Well after 8 years of having a fresh water tank I felt in need of a change. So I sold my 55 gallon planted aquarium and decided to do a 28 gallon reef tank. I'm very excited to begin the setup and start the new learning process.

My tank specs currently are:

- 28 gallon bow front glass tank
- Marineland Bio-Wheel Filter
- 55 watt Heater
- Coralife Lunar Aqualight Deluxe Series-24" (2X65W) with 2- 3/4W Blue-Moon-Glow LED Lamps

This morning I filled the tank with RO water. I'm now waiting for the temperature to stabilize so that I can add in the salt. I’m still researching and looking around for a good Protein Skimmer, so if anyone has any good suggestions or advice, please let me know.

My LFS is getting a nice shipment of live rock in this week; I will be picking up about 30 lbs.
I will be sure to keep posting my progress and updates on my new tank, feel free to leave your comments and/or suggestions.
